ADC strongly condemns the granting of a visa to the antisemitic and racist Marko Perkovic

MEDIA RELEASE 21 December 2007

The B'nai B'rith Anti Defamation Commission (ADC) today condemned the granting of an entry visa to Marko Perkovic Thompson.

Mr Perkovic is a Croatian entertainer who is reputed to give Nazi and Fascist salutes during his concerts, has uttered antisemitic and racist comments and glorifies the pro-Nazi Ustashi regime responsible for the murder of the bulk of Croatian Jewry as well as other ethnic minorities, including Serbs, Gypsies and Muslims.

It does not augur well that the new Labor Government as one of its first acts permitted the entry into Australia of a person who is a beacon for racists and neo-Nazi youth. Australia is renowned for its liberal and multicultural society. To allow someone of that ilk into this country when he has been banned from performing in other countries is a retrograde step.

2007 has seen a significant rise in racist and antisemitic incidents, a fact which is well known to the Government. The ADC calls on the Minister to reconsider the granting of the visa so as to ensure that race politics and hatred is not promoted in this fair and free country.

Chairman
