Respecting the Past, Protecting the Future

Nazi memorabilia program

The Nazi regime is history's most extreme example of the dangers of racism. Six million men, women and children were murdered during World War II by the Nazis simply because they were Jewish. The regime also persecuted many others including Gypsies, the disabled, communists and homosexuals.

The artefacts of the Nazi regime are powerful symbols of its horrors. Unfortunately many are now traded in the memorabilia market as mere curiosities and some fall into the hands of fascist and racist groups who use them to try to revive racism and hatred. Nazi memorabilia including medals, weapons and uniforms belong in museums where they can be used to teach future generations about the dangers of racism.

The ADC has launched a program to ask Australian antique dealers, whether in shops, markets or on the web to choose not to sell these items. Many dealers have responded positively with market leading websites like ebay and Trading Post declaring they will not trade these offensive items.

Where sites and shops choose to continue selling these items, some agree to display a sign educating the public about these wares and standing up against racism. Sites and shops not yet approached are invited to copy the sign below. Shops which would like printed signs can receive them by sending a request and postal address to the ADC.

Nazi memorabilia

Some items displayed here represent the Nazi regime which systematically persecuted and murdered six million Jewish men, women and children and many Gypsies, disabled people, homosexuals and others. This outlet does not endorse in any way the antisemitism and racism represented by these items. We urge you to regard them as historical artefacts only and to fight any attempt to rekindle discrimination against anybody on the grounds of race, religion or ethnicity.
